Our exclusive design commemorates the 80th anniversary (1944 - 2024) of the founding of Mesaba in Coleraine, Minnesota. XJ was a Fixed Base Operator, flight school, and charter operator until the earlyl 1970s when it also began passenger operations. Route expansion from Minneapolis/St. Paul in the 1980s led to Mesaba becoming Northwest Airlines' first Airlink partner - and this relationship continued for the rest of NWA's existence. Mesaba would eventually operate regional jets and one of the world's largest Saab 340 fleets.
